Starters
Smoked Salmon & Avocado Tartare
Ingredients
• 120g good-quality smoked salmon, finely chopped
• 1 ripe avocado, diced small
• 1 tbsp finely chopped red onion
• 1 tsp capers, chopped
• Zest of ½ lemon
• 1–2 tsp fresh lemon juice
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• Fresh dill
• Salt and white pepper
• Crostini, to serve
Method
In a bowl, gently combine salmon, avocado, red onion, capers, lemon zest, lemon juice, and olive oil.
Season lightly with salt and white pepper. Fold carefully to keep texture.
Using a ring mould (or small bowl), press mixture into a neat round on each plate.
Remove mould, top with fresh dill, and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Serve immediately with crisp crostini.
Grilled Prawns with Lemon, Garlic & Chilli Butter
Ingredients
• 10–12 medium prawns, deveined (shell on or off)
• 2 tbsp butter, softened
• 1 garlic clove, finely grated
• Zest of ½ lemon
• 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
• Pinch dried chilli flakes (or fresh red chilli, finely chopped)
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• Fresh parsley, chopped
• Salt
Method
Mix butter with garlic, lemon zest, chilli, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
Pat prawns dry and brush lightly with olive oil.
Heat a grill pan or braai until hot. Grill prawns 2–3 minutes per side until pink and lightly charred. Do not overcook.
While still hot, spoon lemon-chilli butter over the prawns so it melts into them.
Finish with lemon juice and fresh parsley.
Serve with warm ciabatta or roosterkoek to soak up the butter.

Final Thoughts
In the end, the best Valentine's Day Dinner is one that feels personal. Whether you choose steak or Tuscan chicken, panna cotta or fondants, what matters is the attention to detail. Set the table properly, pour the wine slowly, and serve each course with intention. Romance lives in the pauses between bites.
